Common cell culture medium models and their uses

The cell culture medium is an essential liquid medium used to support and extend the growth of cells in vitro. Different cell lines have different nutritional requirements and growth factors and therefore require different types of cell culture media. The following are some common types of cell culture media:

DMEM (Dulbecco’s Modified Eagle Medium):

This is a widely used cell culture medium containing high concentrations of glucose and amino acids, suitable for many different types of cell culture.

RPMI (Roswell Park Memorial Institute):

This is a cell culture medium specially designed for immune cells such as lymphocytes.

MEM (Minimum Essential Medium):

This is a minimal cell culture medium that contains the most basic nutrients and is suitable for cell lines that do not have high nutritional requirements.

F12K (Ham’s F12K Medium):

This is a new culture medium based on Ham’s F12 medium, rich in amino acids, sugars and vitamins, suitable for many different types of cell culture.

L15 (Leibovitz’s L15 Medium):

This is a serum-free, low-glucose, low-insulin, suitable for many different types of primary cell culture.

EGM-2 (Endothelial Cell Growth Medium-2):

This is a medium specially used for endothelial cell culture, which contains a large number of growth factors and cytokines, which can promote the proliferation and differentiation of endothelial cells.

Neurobasal:

This is a medium specially designed for neural cells, suitable for the culture of neurons and glial cells.

DMEM/F12:

This is a new medium mixed with DMEM and Ham’s F12. It contains a variety of essential and non-essential amino acids and is suitable for many different types of cell culture.

The above are several common types of cell culture mediums. Choosing the medium suitable for your cell line will help promote the healthy growth and development of cells.
